Legal Policy and Teaching Experience

I have worked in a number of different judicial and quasi-judicial roles over the course of my career. I currently work as a Settlement Judge and Mediator for the Nevada Supreme Court and as a Mediator for Washoe County, Douglas County, and the Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts. I have worked as a Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore in the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Justice Court since 2013. Over the past ten years, I have also worked as an Arbitrator for the State of Nevada and as an Administrative Hearing Officer for Washoe County, both very similar roles to that of Justice of the Peace. Upon graduation from law school, I also worked as a judicial clerk in the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, one of the highest courts in the country. All of these experiences make me uniquely qualified to serve as a Justice of the Peace in Incline Village and Crystal Bay, Nevada.

I graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 2003, where I graduated with honors and received the Melanie Hardaway Award for Academic Excellence for having the highest grade point average in my class at the end of my first year of law school. During law school, I worked for the Federal Public Defender in Denver, Colorado, assisting with appellate criminal cases before the  United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Since returning to the Tahoe area, I have worked as a Child Advocate Attorney for Washoe Legal Services, a Staff Attorney and Senior Attorney for Nevada Legal Services, and the Directing Attorney of the Washoe County Senior Law Project. I have handled hundreds of cases involving protection orders, small claims cases, and landlord/tenant disputes, all areas routinely heard in the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Justice Court.

In addition to my legal practice, I spent five years working as a Program Attorney and Senior Policy Analyst for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. There, I served as Adjunct Faculty for the University of Nevada, Reno, providing technical assistance and training to judges across the country and in Canada. Over the past ten years, I have also served as guest faculty to judges and legal professionals for the American Bar Association, the Nevada Supreme Court, Nevada's Courts of Limited Jurisdiction (including the Incline Village Justice Court), the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, among others. I am a Founding Partner of the Mediator Training Center, LLC, where I continue to train mediators and legal professionals on basic and advanced mediation topics and the law.
